Vince Gilligan Shares He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Might Finish... For Now.

The creative mastermind could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the acclaimed series reaching its finale—and a second season greenlit and underway—the creative team reflected on the fan response and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get distracted by the constant speculation and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to force fed something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Has Vince Gilligan Know the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… in a way.

“We have some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” he states. “yet we stand ready to abandon a decent plan for a better idea. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, one could always use the classics?

“My dream is Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
