The Renowned Musician Encourages Backing to Send Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Festive Top Spot.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project hopes to send support to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
An Opportunity for Support and an "Chart Upset"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to support Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Resilient Spirit of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Star-Studded Lineup
The single was laid down following a large-scale benefit event held in the autumn. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was cut from the show due to the event running long.
The impressive roster of musicians contributing to Lullaby includes a selection of prominent voices from the music world. All took part in the earlier concert, which successfully generated a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of producers and composers. The single blends a mix of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The team running the campaign have stated that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“We haven't set a specific target,” a spokesperson commented. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The context in the area was noted for its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of infrastructure said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is first of all making this cause better known and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The track is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a major video platform from later in the month.
