The Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup Versus the Dodgers
Springer was instrumental for the Astros claiming the World Series in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their first Fall Classic following 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the AL Championship Series.
Down 3-1, Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh frame, guiding the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the defending champions, holders of the defending champions, in the anticipated championship.
"I'm just so happy for everyone here, the city, the nation," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an amazing experience."
The veteran has now slugged 23 October home runs, ranking him third on the list after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine another person in the world that I'd choose in that spot except for him with his October magic," said manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the early in the series, are still the one club never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's going to sting" following his team's loss at their home ballpark, but praised their performance throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. Sadly that we finished on the unsuccessful side of the series," he remarked.
Toronto secured the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
