A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been fatally gunned down in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country grappling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Officials stated the forty-year-old entertainer was approached by a trio of assailants, with one shot at him before escaping on foot.
The reason behind the shooting is unknown and no one has been arrested have been made, according to authorities.
How It Happened
Law enforcement revealed that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a premises near the Carlton Centre.
He had spent several hours at the site managing the implementation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unidentified individuals, as per local media.
"It is alleged the man was approached by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before running from the location on foot," authorities confirmed.
Security camera video reportedly captured a man with dreadlocked hair and wearing what looked like a security uniform opening fire on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was wounded but fell down across the street.
Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the assault.
