Nigel Farage Claims Teachers of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Racial Topics
Nigel Farage has asserted that educators would initiate walkouts shortly after a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by instructing students that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
At a gathering for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his perspective on British schools, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “taken over schooling”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after winning the next general election,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They promote this negative culture.”
In response to these assertions, the head of a major education union rejected the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to educators’ working conditions, and doubted whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.
“The politician has crafted his political career on dog-whistle politics and now, like Trump, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a fight,” Kebede stated.
“This is highly reckless. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he’s suggesting … If he were to lead the government he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”
The party, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and seems not to have designated an education lead.
Nonetheless, his comments indicated the party would overhaul the educational framework. He said: “We face an enormous task with schooling – truly monumental. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
He stated that gen Z was more open to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to a conservative activist, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and you make up your own mind as opposed to current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”
The party has conflicted with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and dismissed Farage as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.
The politician has charged Kebede of being “an avowed radical” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted at school, their minds should be poisoned regarding national issues” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate youth opposed to his party.
Almost one million people work in schools in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.
Countrywide walkouts over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 led to significant interruptions in schools and extensive missed instruction for children.
At the US event, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the Christian college in the UK. He stated organizations like it were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I will help garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of young people to your online courses. I pledge this now and I will follow through.”
The college, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. According to its online description: “Comprehensive learning is vital for well-being and to perpetuate the blessings of civil and religious liberty. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for no charge to every interested learner.”
