Information Available About the Those Lost of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident

At least 16 individuals perished and over 40 sustained injuries when assailants fired on a Hanukah celebration at Bondi Beach, an attack Australian authorities are describing as a terrorist attack.

According to the most recent information, officials have announced the death toll is 16, encompassing one of the alleged gunmen. Additionally, 42 injured people were admitted to hospital.

The victims are yet to be officially identified, but authorities state their ages are between 10 and 87 years of age.

Listed are the individuals who have been identified to date.

Eli Schlanger

London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.

Described as a father of five children, he worked as the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and friends spoke of him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.

“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a family member asked.

Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the arrival of their youngest child in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, as stated by his wife.

She told the events leading up to the attack, stating they had been standing together when the gunfire erupted. “He shielded me because he wished to be near me,” she said.

The pair were both Holocaust survivors, having endured unspeakable terror in their youth. They had subsequently relocated to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

French authorities have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is among the victims.

Officially, the Foreign Minister said that France stood with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This cowardly attack is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must combat,” the statement read.

One Child

A young girl, aged 10 who was rushed to the a children's hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, according to police reports.

One Israeli Citizen

One victim from Israel was among those killed during the attack, as per reports citing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

From the 42 people taken to hospital, many are still receiving treatment, with a number in critical condition. The injured comprise two police officers who responded to the attack.

One of the injured is a bystander who attempted to intervene to confront one of the gunmen. Hailed as a hero, he received bullet wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. It has been reported he was injured and underwent treatment in hospital.

In a message, he described the scene as an “utter carnage,” but also noted the response of those who came to assist. He said he believed it was a “miracle” he survived.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the attack. He told reporters he heard “dozens and dozens” of shots.

“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I was hit. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
